Our Mother, Hazel C. McGill, was born March 28, 1933 to Martha and Charles Cole. She received her homecoming and joined her parents on February 3, 2022. Hazel, lovingly known as "Gran" or "Granny", was a pious and devout Christian and a pillar of the community. She was known as one of the Mothers and faithful member of Family Missionary Baptist Church, who was involved with feeding, clothing, and caring for people of the neighborhood and church. She was compassionate, loving, empathetic, and always available to provide words of wisdom, comfort, and support to anyone in need. Hazel Cole met George A. McGill, Sr. (deceased) in Durham, NC when her family moved from Sanford, NC. She came to Columbus, OH where they married and she took on the role of becoming the matriarch of the McGill family. Hazel was blessed with the opportunity of becoming a new mother to five children who had lost their mother in a terrible accident. Hazel had also lost her previous husband and two children in a fire. God brought together souls of mutual pain, a Mother that needed Family and a Family that needed a Mother. She accepted them, nurtured them, and cared for other family members without hesitation. She retired from Mt Cannel West as a Dietary Aide and was loved and adored by everyone that knew her. Hazel was preceded in death by former husband and two sons in NC; sister, Edna Cole; brothers, Ernest (Dorothy) Cole, Pete (May) Cole, and William (Billy) Cole; daughter, Deborah "Snack Cake" Gordon; and grandsons, Samuel McGill Sr and Timothy King. Our mother leaves a legacy of love, never ending hugs, warmth of her smile, and the joy of her eyes that can lighten up your soul. She will "Always and Forever" live on in our hearts through her sister, Wilma C. Smith; daughters, Denise (Joe) King, Marilyn (Jerry) Mitchell, and Georgina McGill; son, George (Ramona) McGill, Jr.; grandchildren, Tammie McGill, Anthony McGill, Jerome Gordon, Daryl Gordon, Jericho Mitchell, Gregory Milton, Aaron Green Sr., Kahlic Taylor, Naja (Miles) Jordan, and Jorkeem McGill and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, great grand/great- great grand children other relatives and friends.
