Helen Mildred Richardson Smith was one of three children born to the union of William and Flora Richardson in Columbus, Ohio. She was married to Edward Smith, and to this union, two daughters were born. At a young age, she was baptized into the Baptist church. For over seventy years, Mrs. Richardson was a member of Trinity Baptist Church, where she served faithfully in the choir, Sunday School, Bible Study, Hospitality Ministry (kitchen assistant), and many other auxiliaries through the years. She also attended Faith Ministries Church on occasion. Mrs. Smith worked at The Ohio State University North as a Baker and Cook for over 15 years. We shall truly miss her carmel cake, pound cake, German chocolate cake, cookies, turkey and dressing, yams, greens, chicken tetrazzini, and the list goes on and on. Beside baking and cooking, gardening was her favorite hobby. Many days, people would see her working in her yard from 4:30 a.m. until darkness had fallen. She loved flowers and trees -- the more unusual, the better. Her yard was always immaculate. Her grass was like a soft green rug and she took great pride in it. Mrs. Smith was preceded in death by her parents, William and Flora Richardson, brother Robert Richardson, sister Gertrude Bateman, brother-in-law Jack Bateman, and nephew Robert Richardson, Jr. A few years ago, she lost her beloved dog, Lady, who had been her constant companion. Helen M. Richardson Smith is survived by her daughters, Teure' K. Williams of Columbus, and Rosalind A. Smith of Anaheim, California; grandchildren, Ayondela Z. Williams-Hunte and Charita M. Nunery; great grandchildren, Nicholas Hunte, Zuri Hunte, and Tristan Williams; nephews, Dennis Johnson (Sarah), Anthony Richardson, and Brian Richardson; nieces, Debbie (Troy) Mitchell and Courtney Helm; sister-in-law Carmelita Richardson; and a host of other relatives, dear friends, church family, and beloved neighbors of which there are too many to name. She loved so many people and they loved her.
