Henry Louis Neal

HENRY LOUIS NEAL JR. was born Saturday, October 22, 1949, in Columbus, Ohio. He was the son of the late Henry L. Neal, Sr. and the late Esther F. Toney Neal. Louie, as he was affectionately called by family and friends, lost his hearing at an early age. However, he attended regular schools and learned to read lips as a part of his education. Henry graduated from Mohawk High School, where he wrestled and played football. A fond memory was when his football team played their inter-city rival, Linden McKinley, Henry and his brother played and competed, face-to-face, against several of his neighborhood friends. Henry worked at Robinson’s Auto Body Shop. He became one, if not their best auto painter in just a few years of employment. Later in life, Henry lost his ability to walk. This physical change did not slow him down. Henry could be seen flying up and down the streets in his motorized wheelchair. Moreover, he continued to attend concerts, participate in Deaf Association trips and functions, and enjoyed playing the slots at the casino. Henry was a fun-loving person, always kidding around and loved to entertain his friends. Henry was a gentle giant. He appreciated family and was loved by everyone he encountered. Blessed with seventy-two years of life, our beloved Henry L. Neal Jr. passed away Tuesday, April 19, 2022. He is survived by his only brother, Steven A. (Voycell Young) Neal of Bellevue, Nebraska; nephews, Joseph A. (Sarah K. Locke) Neal of Whispering Pines, North Carolina and Timothy A. Neal of Omaha, Nebraska; two great nephews; four great nieces; many cousins, other family members, and dear friends. In spite of life’s challenges, Henry was very determined, kind, and always kept a smiling face.
