HOMER DENNIS was born in Columbus, Ohio, on Sunday, January 17, 1937. He was the son of Charles Dennis and Essie Mae Dennis. Homer received his formal education from Columbus City Schools and was a 1955 graduate of Central High School. He furthered his education at Franklin University, earning an Associates of Science in Business Administration (1978) and a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration (1980). Earlier in 1975, Homer studied business management and production management from an International Correspondence School. He was extremely proud to be the first of his family to graduate from college.
Homer was one of the first African Americans employed as a production machine operator at Jeffrey Mining Machinery Company. He was quickly promoted to Manufacturing Engineer in 1974. Moreover, in 1983, Homer developed the application of Engineered Time Standard for Schuler Incorporated.
In his leisure, Homer enjoyed photography, playing billiards, and was an avid collector and historian of Columbus, Ohio memorabilia. Since the early 1960’s, Homer was an active committee member of the Annual Flytown Reunion.
Blessed with eighty-five years of life, our beloved Homer Dennis was called from labor to eternal rest on Thursday, September 15, 2022. He was preceded in death by his father, Charles Dennis; mother, Essie Mae Dennis; sisters, Katherine Clark and Sheila Dennis; and brothers, Ronald Dennis and Carl Dennis.
Loving memories are cherished by his daughter, Michelle D. (Charles) Adkins; stepchildren, Lori Tucker-Moore, Dennis Tucker, and Danny Tucker; grandchildren; a great grandson; brother, Donald (Sheila Y.) Dennis, Sr.; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other family members, and dear friends.
