Howard Jones Jr.

Howard Lawrence Jones, Jr. transitioned to his heavenly home on Thursday, October 6, 2022. He was born in Columbus, Ohio on November 9, 1951, to Emma Mae Barnes Jones and Howard L. Jones, Sr. He attended Columbus Public Schools and graduated from West High School in 1970. He lettered in football and basketball and he, Byrd Allen Prillerman, Ronnie Gossett, Arthur Porter made up the Tabulations singing group at West. After graduating, he attended the University of Findlay. Howard lived most of his adult life in Indianapolis, Indiana, where he was employed by Ozark Airlines, was an insurance agent and later retired from AES Corporation.

He was preceded in death by his father, Howard L. Jones, Sr., his grandparents, Charles & Marie Barnes and David & Estella Jones, and brothers-in-law, Rev. Michael D. Johnson, John Thomas Broadnax, Willie Broadnax and Richard Sherrod.

Howard’s memory will be cherished by: his sons - Howard Jones, III and Matthew (Kristin) Jones; daughter - Bria Jones; mother - Emma Mae Jones; sisters - Sheila Herrell, Carolyn Johnson, Saundra Broadnax, Donna VanMeter, Peggy Broadnax, Pamela (William) Wetterhahn; grandchildren – Journi, Elijah, Jeremiah, Mila, and a new grandson; special friends - John Brown, Ronnie Gossett, Byrd Allen Prillerman, Arthur Porter; Valerie Jones and Pat Jones; many cousins and extended family members and friends who loved him.

Howard enjoyed sports, fishing, traveling, playing with his grandchildren, and socializing with friends, especially Byrd Allen’s cookouts. Howard loved his family, loved God, and worshiped at Hilltop United Methodist Church whenever he was in Columbus. He did his best in all circumstances, was a friend to many and will be loved forever.

Rest in peace, dear Howard – we will always carry your memory in our hearts.
