Ivan was born on August 31, 1953, in Stirrat, West Virginia and slept away from this earth on Wednesday, October 2, 2013 at 10:45 a.m. with his family by his side. He recently celebrated his 60th Birthday with family and friends. Ivan grew up in Columbus, Ohio, and was a member of Bethany Baptist Church, baptized on March 7, 1965 by the Reverend A. Wilson Wood. He attended Columbus North High School and, on April 21, 1971, he enlisted in the United States Navy, serving during the Viet Nam era on the U.S.S. Hollister and the U.S.S. Guadal Canal in active duty for 7 years, 2 months and 29 days. He received an honorable discharge from his service to this country on June 30, 1978. He resided briefly in Cleveland, Ohio before reestablishing his residency in Columbus, Ohio. He was a Store Manager, employed by the Kroger Co. in 1996 and retired in 2012, due to illness after over 17 years of service. He was President of the Shannon Lakes Condo Association. He was preceded in death by his mother Bernice Marie Clemmons Burt, father John Newsome, grandparents, Jack E. Bennett, Georgia A. Bennett, James Long and Maggie Long, aunts Evelyn R. Davis and Viola Newsome, uncle Willie L. Davis, sister-in-law Mary Clemmons, and cousins Katrice Williams and Kippy Newsome. Ivan is survived by his daughters, Erica M. Clemmons and Yanni J. Clemmons of Columbus, Ohio; sons, Ivan D. Clemmons, II and Ryan Marchman of Atlanta, Georgia; brother Maurice D. Clemmons of Shamrock, West Virginia; sister Cynthia M. (Harold) Lee of Columbus, Ohio; granddaughter Paige M. Clemmons; nieces Tiana M. Winchester of Columbus, Ohio and Kasey N. Clemmons of Shamrock, West, Virginia; nephews Maurice D. Clemmons, Jr., and Shawn J. D. Clemmons of Shamrock, West Virginia; aunt Carolyn D. Brown of Columbus, Ohio; uncle James L. Brown of Dublin, Ohio; 1st cousins, Sonya R. Brown, Tony A. Brown, Janelle F. Rutland, all of Columbus, Ohio and Gregory (Jeannette) Davis, Gary Davis, of Cleveland, Ohio; special friends and family Patricia M. Marchman of Atlanta, Georgia, Deborah D. Kent and Geneva Kent of Detroit, Michigan; wife Yolanda Clemmons and ten great nieces and nephews. Ivan was a wonderful husband, father, brother, uncle, cousin and friend and will be missed dearly. He loved his family and his family loved him. “I Will Bless the Lord, at all times and his Praises shall continually be mine. I will give thanks to thee, because the Lord has lifted me. He’s opened Doors that I could not see. Oh Taste and See that the Lord is good. Blessed is the Man, who’d trust him, if he would. Praise the Lord from whom all Blessings Flow.”
