Jack Edward 'Coach' Quinichett

Jack went home to be with the Lord on Monday, April 7, 2014. Jack was born February 10, 1934 to Lola Howard and Herbert Quinichett of Urbancrest, Ohio. Jack “Sweet Water” Quinichett was involved with youth development for 55 years. He started with the Urbancrest Marauders basketball team in 1959 and was instrumental in founding the Grove City Black Knights in 1963. This group has evolved into the Grove City Kids Association, one of the largest and best-run youth organizations in Central Ohio. Jack became an assistant coach at Bishop Ready High School then went on to become the first African-American coach at Grandview schools. Fondly known as “Coach” or “Coach Q”, Jack has been honored and recognized by many organizations over the years, for his sacrifice, dedication, teaching, motivation, encouragement and counseling of the youth in Urbancrest, Grove City, the Westside and Grandview. He retired coaching from Grandview in 2009. Jack retired from the Post Office after 30 years of service. He went on to work at the Franklin County Clerk of Courts Office where he retired after 15 years of service. Preceded in death by mother, Lola Robinson; father, Herbert Quinichett; brother, Herbert Quinichett, Jr.; sister, Maridean Shipp; daughters Lois Quinichett and Rene Combs. Loving memories will be cherished by his children, Lolita Quinichett, Aaron (Machamma) Quinichett and Lydia Quinichett; grandchildren: Duane, Kim, Toyka (Jimmy), Derek, Michael, Maurice, Assata and Agyei; and a host of great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. We would like to extend a very special thank you to his neighbors, Allan and Teresa, Sallie, Ryan, Nat and Samantha.
