James Alexander Carter Sr., age ninety-five, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, March 18, 2025. James was born in St. Albans, West Virginia on June 15, 1929, to Cordell Carter and Mary Rumley. He was a graduate of Elkhorn High School, Elkhorn, West Virginia, where he met and married his high school sweetheart, Mary A. Preston. He valued the Lincoln Park Community and worked with the children and single mothers in an effort to improve their lives and the community as a whole.
Pastor Carter was active in the Mount Calvary Association where he tutored young ministers to equip them for ministry. He was a true Shepherd to his local flock and a visionary moving them from worshipping in a laundry mat to a residential house to the erecting of a beautiful church building that symbolizes his legacy to the community and to the church.
Upon his retirement from the ministry he spent over twenty years as a care-giver for his wife Mary. He enjoyed garage sales, playing with his grandchildren all while remaining a mentor to young deacons, pastors and children in the community.
