James Edward Marcum was born on April 14, 1924 to Robert Marcum and Mary E. Crawley Marcum in Portsmouth, Ohio. He attended Portsmouth Public Schools and later enlisted in the United States Army during World War II. He retired from Timken Rollin Bearing and Columbus Coated Fabrics. James was affectionately known by many nicknames, but he was best known by his loved ones as “Buster.” At the age of 88, James departed this earthly life on Saturday, July 14, 2012, at Grant Medical Center in Columbus, Ohio. He was preceded in death by his mother and father, as well as his brother Silas Marcum, sister Sue Malone, and the love of his life Lillie Mae Gossett. He leaves to cherish his memory, three sons, James Gossett, Silas (Renee) Gossett, and Russell Gossett, three daughters Barbara Hughes-McDearmon (Wayne McDearmon), Dolores Gossett, and Mary (Butch) Smith; stepdaughters Charlotte Leigh, Lenna (Raymond) Solomon, Julia Gossett, and Vivian Gossett; a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and dear friends, including Stephanie Cobb, Dwaun Mitchell, Monica Moore, and Helen Richardson-Smith.
