James G. Walker, Jr.

James G. Walker, Jr. was born on September 3, 1943, in Columbus, Ohio, to James G. Walker, Sr. and Angie Wills Hartgrove (Thomas). Jun or Butch - as family and friends affectionately called him - departed this earthly life on Friday, January 7, 2022, at Riverside Hospital's Kobacker House. Jun accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior at an early age. He held former membership with the Union Grove Baptist Church. At the time of his death, he was attending Trinity Baptist Church. Jun served in the U.S. Air Force and was honorably discharged before working at Hughes Peters and Anchor Hocking Companies. He retired from Columbus City Schools with 22 years of service. After joining the Alcoholics Anonymous organization at age 50, he had 28 years of sobriety. As a member, he was a devoted volunteer with the Central Ohio Group Fellowship, answering phones and leading meetings to help and encourage others to overcome alcohol and drug addictions. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, David T. Hartgrove; uncles James, Frederick, Chauncey, and David Wills; and aunt Katheryn Wills Lawson. Jun leaves to cherish his memory: sisters, Greta J. Russell, Ann White Griffin (Richard), Emma Moore, and Reva Walker; brother, Raleigh L. Hartgrove; son, Christopher Clark (Nadja); nephews, Shelton A. Russell (Valerie) and Marquis E. Russell; Heath A. Hartgrove, Thomas M. Hartgrove (Tiffany), David T. Hartgrove (Constance); nieces, Tenesha M. Hartgrove, Jasmine White, and Semira Hartgrove; other nieces and nephews; and a host of other relatives and friends.
