James Walter Griffin, Jr., 64, of Dublin, Ohio, passed away Tuesday, February 14, 2012 at the VA Medical Center in Dayton, Ohio. James was born September 18, 1947 to James Walter Griffin, Sr. and Zelda Elizabeth Henderson Griffin in Henlawson, West Virginia. After completing his formal education in Columbus, Ohio, Jimmy enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and actively served from February 1965 to February 1969. During that time, he was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, the Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry, the Presidential Unit Citation, and the Rifle Marksman Badge. Jimmy was honorably discharged at the rank of Lance Corporal, but continued to serve his country as a member of the Marine Corps Reserve. He was employed by Western Electric and the Southern Ohio Correctional Facility for many years. Jimmy was once married to Vicki (Ward), Patricia (Davis), and Patricia (Jones) Griffin. He was a member of The Lord Jesus Christ’s Church. James was also known by many relatives and long time friends as June or Windy. He was loved by many and will be sadly missed by all. Some of his favorite sayings were: Let me hold a hundred and It's me, I'm back. James was preceded in death by his father James W. Griffin, Sr., mother Zelda E. Reggins, stepfather Willie Reggins, sister Jean Griffin, stepbrother Willie Francis Reggins, and his grandparents. He leaves to cherish his memory, one son Gary (Carmen) Griffin, Sr.; eight daughters, Terri (Jerry) Wynn, Terria (Angelo) Skiver, Tina (Michael) Frost, Toyia Griffin (Steve Hairston), Shanell Griffin, Sonequa (Jason) Arnett, Seana Marshall, and Kameeka Griffin; fiancee Lois Tinker; sister Deborah (Arthur) Garrett; stepsisters Vivet Reggins and Patricia (William) Austin; twelve grandchildren, Gary Jr., Dwayne, Paris, Tela, Alexis, Amarion, Angelo Jr., Desiree, Cortez, Corriyah, Cortnee, and Taisseana; two great grandchildren, Journey and Kaliyah; his honorary grandchildren, Mahogany, Tavionna, Chardonnay, Justice, Maniya, and Amaira; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends, including his close friends Michael Horton, Oliver Poole, Sylvester Green, Paul Williams, and Lamar Glenn.
