James Howard McKinney, known also as Hawk, was born January 21, 1932 in Columbus, Ohio. After graduating from East High School, in 1950, James H. McKinney enlisted in the United States Navy and served for four years in Korea. After returning home, he worked for the United States Postal service, and retired after 28 years of service. He was a 32nd degree Mason and a member of Trinity Baptist Church, where he served in the usher ministry. On Sunday, September 6, 2015, James was called home to be with our Heavenly Father at the age of 83. He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Mildred McKinney, brother Bill, sister Genevieve Draughon, and aunt Genevieve Lee of Detroit, Michigan. James is survived by his wife of 59 years, Nona (nee Norris); son Richard (Sabrina); grandsons, Devin and Darrin; great grandson Darrin Jr.; brother Thomas (Mary); sisters-in-law, Eloise and Helen Norris; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and special friends. At the request of his family, NO FLOWERS PLEASE. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of James may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 1379 Dublin Rd, Columbus, Ohio 43215, or the Trinity Baptist Church Scholarship Fund. Special thanks to the staff of Ohio Health Hospice who service was deeply appreciated.
