Jane Wanda Gatliff was born October 29, 1917 in Chillicothe, Ohio. She was the younger of two daughters born to Earl Maurice Gatliff and Duanna Thomas Gatliff. Jane received her bachelor's degree from Wilberforce University and a Master of Library Science degree from Atlanta University (now Clark Atlanta University) in Atlanta, Georgia. She worked for thirty years as a librarian at The Ohio State University, where she attained Assistant Professor Emeritus status upon her retirement. A faithful member of St. Philip Episcopal Church, Jane was also a longtime member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority and a former member of the Columbus Chapter of the Northeasterners, Inc. Jane departed this life on Friday, December 30, 2011 at St. Ann's Hospital. In addition to her parents, Jane was preceded in death by her beloved sister Virginia Gatliff Otey and brother-in-law Charles R. Otey, Sr. Left to cherish memories of Jane are her devoted nephews Charles R. Otey, Jr. (Velda) and Earl T. Otey, Sr. (Barbara); great nieces, Katrina Otey Turner (Jason), Tamarra Otey (fiance Kevin Youngblood), and Amber Otey; great nephews Earl T. Otey, Jr. (Angela) and Charles R. Otey, III (fiance Lisa Younkin); six great-great nieces and -nephews, a host of other relatives and friends. Celebration of Life 12 noon, Thursday, January 5, 2012 at St. Philip Episcopal Church, 166 Woodland Ave., where the family will receive friends from 11 a.m. until the start of service. Fr. Jerome Burns, Celebrant. Interment Green Lawn Cemetery.
