Janice Faye Brooks

February 14, 1949 — December 13, 2024

Janice Faye Brooks was born on February 14, 1949, to the late Simuel Rose and Annie C. Johnson.  Janice often reminded people that she was born on Valentine’s Day, saying “I am a born sweetheart” and she truly was indeed.  Janice turned her life over to the Lord at an early age and continued to profess her salvation and love for the Lord to her last breath.

Janice was the daughter of Annie C. Johnson and the baby sister of Claudette Colon-Latimore.  Janice would often make it well known that Claudette was her “older” sister and they were two peas in a pod.  Throughout their lives, they always lived close to one another and their children grew up more like siblings than cousins.  The gates of Heaven have opened up every ten years to welcome God’s angels, Claudette in December 2004, their mother, Annie in December 2014 and now Janice in December 2024.

Janice was a hard worker and strived to complete her education, excel in her career and raise her family.  This was evident in everything she did, including being the first African American to graduate from Wetumpka High School in Wetumpka, Alabama in 1966.  Janice later graduated magna cum laude, with a B.S. degree from Dyke College in 1979. Janice focused her career in Defense Finance and Accounting Services, she later retired from VBA as Chief Finance Officer after 25 years of dedicated service.

Janice married John Charles Duncan and gave birth to her son John Charles Duncan II.  She later married Richard Lee Brooks and gave birth to her baby girl, Renita Lylene Brooks.  Everyone knew Janice’s children were the apple of her eyes and she worked hard to ensure they were taken good care of.

After her retirement, Janice headed south to Augusta to entertain and relax with her son, daughter-in-law and grandsons. In 2020, she returned to Ohio and graced Columbus with her presence where she resided with her nephew and niece, The Robinsons.  What a time we had! Family moments were truly cherished and unforgettable memories were made.

Janice, known to most as “Tee Janice”, was always the light in the dark.  If you were looking for a laugh, a pick me up, or some type of comment or cliché she was the key.   She was the true example of “To Know Her, Is to Love Her”!!!

Janice was preceded in death by her sister, Claudette Colon-Latimore, sister, Gloria Rose-Stringer, and brothers, Willie Rose, Robert Rose, Clerence Rose, James Rose, Fred Rose I, Fred Rose II, Albert Porterfield.
