Jeannette Elizabeth Bogan

November 19, 1927 — January 3, 2021

Jeannette Elizabeth Bogan age 93, was ushered into the presence of the Lord on Sunday, January 4, 2021. She was born on November 19, 1927 in Columbus, Ohio to Ethel Jones. She was raised by the late Jay and Rose Cornelius. She attended Central High School and graduated in 1947. She committed her life early to the Lord and was a long standing member of the Mt. Olivet Baptist Church. She was active in multiple ministries in her youth, and in her latter years she participated in the Golden Agers Club, although she never considered herself in the senior citizen category. She would always let you know that she was “21 years old with over 70 years of experience.” She met and married Joseph Bogan in 1965. Together they raised ten children and taught them many life lessons on Mound Street that are passed on to their many grandchildren still to this day. Jeannette was raised with a strong work ethic, rarely missed a day of work even reporting during the blizzard of 1978. She was an exemplary employee of the Ohio Bureau of Employment Services. She was employed as a keypunch operator for over 30 years and proudly served as a union steward. Mommie had a keen sense of style and loved “dressing to impress”. She insisted upon wearing her heels well into her 80’s. Mommie raised us to NEVER go in public without being “dressed to the nines.” You knew you were looking good if she told you, “You got it, even if you don’t go.” She had a love for travel and loved cruising and was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star - Royal Star Chapter 14. She was a regular at bingo and always had a reserved front row seat at USEP. Mommie was a woman of strong moral character and set her family on the straight path of honoring God. She reminded us regularly, “Right is Right, and Right don’t wrong nobody.” She was not one to give up on anything and would encourage us to “Take Life with a Grain of Salt.” She would advise both family and friends, “Don’t let your left hand know what the right hand is doing.” She is preceded in death by her parents: Ethel Jones, Jay and Rose Cornelius, her husband, Joseph Bogan; her brothers and sisters, Russell, Benny, Eddie Rose and Betty Sue; along with her only son, Larry and cherished grandson David. She leaves to cherish her memory: her children, Roseann Wilson, Ghengdalfah Crowder, Josephine Jones, Ibtehaj Abdul-Hadi, Bridgette Cornelius, Brene Taylor, Rochelle Castillo, Angela (John) Dawson and Mildred Bogan. Also left to cherish her memory, a host grandchildren, great and great-great grandchildren, nieces and nephews and cousins in the Ragland, Byrd, Young, and Jones families along with special sons Lupe and Yusef.
