Joann Peck-Gooden was born on November 16, 1935 to John Peck and Margaret L. Colbert in North Vernon, Indiana. She departed this life to be with Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior on Monday, April 25, 2011. Joann grew up in North Vernon and moved to Columbus, Indiana and married Bennie Melton Gooden Jr. She was a long time member of St. Bartholomew Catholic Church in Columbus, Indiana where all her children attended school. She retired from Cummins Engine Company and later moved to Columbus, Ohio. She worked for the USPS as a casual clerk in 2000. She attended Heritage Day Health Center located in John Gerlach Center for Senior Health and recently at the Pickerington Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Joann enjoyed taking care of her family and life to the fullest. Her smile will never be forgotten. Joann was preceded in death by her parents, John and Margaret Peck; husband, Bennie M. Gooden; son, Jeffrey C. Gooden and her sister and brother-in-law, Marva and Jo Brannon. She is survived by children, Stephini E. Jefferson, of Columbus, OH; LaVerne “Candy” Gooden, of Columbus, IN; grandchildren, Shanelle Staggers, Clinton David Jones, Christopher Shipley and Bricklyn Shipley; great grandchildren, Shamaye Dixon, of Columbus, OH; Myles Shipley, Noah Shipley, Stephany Shipley, Demetrius Shipley, Dominque Shipley and Braylan Shipley, all of Columbus, IN; sister, Harriette, of Columbus, OH; and a host of other relatives and friends, including good friend, Ray Handley.
