Joe Patterson passed away surrounded by family on September 6, 2024 at the age of 99. Joe was born December 19, 1924 in Roanoke, Virginia where he was raised by his grandmother Ida Penn, who he called Mama. He proudly served his country in the United States Army and was a World War II Veteran. After his time in the service, he returned to marry the love of his life, Rebecca Majors and raised 12 children.
He moved to Columbus Ohio in 1959 with his family, where he worked at Sherwood Middle School and for the City of Columbus for over 30 years. He enjoyed spending time with his family and his numerous pets, gardening, shopping, watching CNN and old cowboy movies, and sitting on his porch chewing tobacco.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Rebecca; son, Joseph; daughters, Theresa, Ida; grandson, David; father, Joe; mother, Mary America; grandmother, Ida; and Aunt Cindy. Survived to mourn his loss are his children, Mary (Edward), David (Regina), Lydia ( Michael), Carl (Margaret), Myra, Timothy (Christine), Rebecca (Michael), Stephanie (David), Barbara and his 28 grandchildren, 41 great-grandchildren and 4 great great-grandchildren.
Visitation and Funeral services will be held on Saturday, September 14, 2024 at Diehl Whittaker Funeral home, 1370 E Main St., Columbus, OH 43205. Visitation: 9am-10am. Funeral Service and Burial : 10 am-12 pm

Burial will process to Evergreen Cemetery at 1401 Woodland Ave, Columbus ,Ohio, 43219.
