Joe Stevens

Joe L. Stevens, age 84, entered eternal rest on Thursday, November 24, 2022, with his family by his side. Joe was born in Elgood, West Virginia, to the late Grant and Doretha Stevens. He was educated in the Mercer County School System, graduating from Park Central High School in 1956. Upon graduating, Joe enlisted in the United States Army. He married Exie M. Stevens in December 1974, to this union a daughter, Jennifer, was born. He was also the proud father to three additional children, Marilyn (Gaynell), Joseph, and Anthony.

Upon leaving the Army, Joe worked several jobs in the West Virginia and Virginia area before moving to Ohio and joining the Columbus City Schools as a school bus driver, where he retired in 1997. Joe was a member of Bethany Baptist Church where he faithfully served on the senior usher board, drove the church van, worked in the sound/audio booth, and helped with the annual Christmas basket assembly.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Grant and Doretha Stevens; his brothers, Crockett B., Cecil K., Edward, William R., Theodore, Curtis and Leon Stevens; and his sister, Sylvia Richardson.

He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife, Exie Stevens; daughters, Marilyn (Gaynell) Stevens and Jennifer Stevens; sons, Joseph Stevens and Anthony Williams; granddaughter, Christina LeGrant; great-grandson, Jerry Davis; sister, Betty Davis (Bluefield, WV); sisters-in-law, Jerry Brown (Akron, AL), Martha Williams (Akron, AL), Sandra Williams (Akron, AL), Jacqueline Williams (Tuscaloosa, AL); brothers-in-law, Menthorn (Anna) Williams (Columbus, OH), Leon (Mary) Williams (Akron, AL); special cousin, Bobbie Lamar-Chambers (Columbus, OH); and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.
