John Calvin Ivory was born on March 3, 1949 in Columbus Ohio. He was born to the late Frank and Pearl Ivory Sr. John was a very dedicated husband, father, brother, grandfather, and uncle. John graduated from East High School in 1968. After graduating from East High School, he enlisted into the air force and served four years from 1968 to 1972. After serving his country, John was hired by JC Penney Distribution Center. He work for J. C. Penney for 10 years. While working, John attended CTI, which is now Columbus State, and received his associates degree in business. After completing the firefighter academy, he became a full fledged firefighter and served from July 1985 to August 2011, when he retired. He refereed basketball, umpired softball and baseball from high school on down. He was an avid lover of the Cleveland Browns and Ohio State. He was friendly, kind, compassionate, and dependable. John was the rock of the family. He loved entertaining others and offered his home to many. John loved helping out at the soup kitchen at Jerusalem Tabernacle Baptist Church. John was also involved with the East High School Alumni Association. John was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Pearl Ivory; brother, Frank Ivory, Jr.; He is survived by his wife, Bernetta; two sons, Taman (Jancie ) Ivory and Garan Ivory; three granddaughters, Kayla Marie Ivory, Alexis Elizabeth Ivory, and Kennedy Cruz Ivory; sister, Donna (Gene) Peoples of Columbus; sisters-in-law, Pamela Ivory, Lenora Robinson, Donna (Edward) Derbigny, Janice (Keith) Harris, and Jacqueline Jackson, all of Columbus; Wanda Jackson, of Evanston, IL; Cheryl (Anthony) Burns, of Sugar Tree, TN; brother-in-law, Dwight (Diann) Jackson, of Rochester, NY; and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, family, and friends.
