JOHN CRAIGHEAD, born was born December 31, 1947 in East Gulf, WV. He peacefully went home to glory on November 23, 2019 at Westminster Assistant Living Quarters Columbus, Ohio, surrounded by family and loved ones. Preceded in death by father, William A Craighead; mother, Esther E. Craighead; brothers, Kemper Craighead, Donald Craighead and Leon Craighead; and a host of other family members. John graduated from Stratton High School in Beckley, West Virginia in 1966. After graduating, he left Beckley to pursue job opportunities which he did. He worked at Pratt & Whitney Air Craft Co. in New Haven, Connecticut. After doing his job there, John decided to serve his country In the United States Army. While in the Army, John was in Vietnam for a tour of duty where he received numerous awards, including, the National Defense Service Medal, Parachute Badge, Vietnam Service Combat, The Bronze Star Medal With " V" Device, Infantryman Badge, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Vietnam Cross of Gallantry W/Palm, Expert Badge (Rifle). John was our HERO! He would say “old soldiers never die, we just fade away" and that’s what he did. After being honorably discharged in 1970, John returned to New Haven, Connecticut and started working with the U.S. Postal Service. Along the way, he relocated to Columbus, Ohio and worked with The Columbus School System. John loved watching the West Virginia Mountaineers & The Ohio State Buckeyes Football Teams. He leaves to cherish fond memories, his son, Craig (Dominique) Craighead; his children Savion and Quayana Craighead; stepdaughter, Tania Bonne, all of Columbus, OH; one sister, Maxine V. Downs of Columbus OH; five brothers, Otha (Hester) Craighead of Detroit MI, Leroy (Maria) Craighead of Roselle, N.J., Thomas Craighead of Columbus, OH, Michael Craighead of Columbus, OH, and Timothy Craighead of Beckley, WV; one special friend, Brenda Carr of Columbus, OH, and a host of great uncles, great nieces, great nephews, cousins, relatives and friends.
