John Goins Jr.

John (Sonny)Rivers Goins Jr., 76, of Columbus, OH went home to be with the LORD September 29, 2023. He was born November 1, 1946 in Carbondale, WV to the late John and Kathleen Goins.

In spite of suffering a traumatic brain injury as an infant John successfully graduated from East High School in Columbus OH in 1967. John also maintained employment with Lucent Technologies Company for nearly 40 years.

John’s confession of faith began when he was an adolescent youth member of the Carbondale Baptist Church in West Virginia where he was baptized prior to his family relocating to Ohio. John rededicated his life to Christ in his later years and frequently attended New Faith Baptist Church before his health challenges progressed.

It was well known to those closest to John that he had a great passion for watching cartoons, especially Bugs Bunny. He left a legacy of VHS tapes of all things Disney!

John is preceded in death by his parents, John and Kathleen Goins Sr. He is survived by his wife, Mary Goins, five children; Patricia M. Goins, Vanessa Cosby, Dr. Charnetta Goins, John R. Goins III, Connie (Jason) Fink. Grand Children, and Siblings; Harvey (Cynthia) Goins, Joyce Goins, Anthony “Tony” Goins, Katrina Goins, Wilbert “Chuck” (Betty) Goins, Rita (Ralph) Hillman. John also leaves to cherish his memory five generations of nieces and nephews.
