John Henry Jones

John Henry Jones was born in Holden, West Virginia on August 10, 1936 to Floyd and Willie Bell Martin Jones. He established his relationship with God at an early age at Greater Mount Zion Baptist Church in Holden, West Virginia. He began his schooling at Dunbar Elementary School and then advanced to Aracoma High School where he played football. John graduated in 1955. In High School John played football for four years and made All State as a tackle and earned a 4-year scholarship to Bluefield State College. He was inducted into the Aracoma High School Hall of Fame in 2004. He was an outstanding Lineman for the Bluefield State College Football Team. He was voted most outstanding Offensive and Defensive Lineman during the 1957-1958 seasons. John also earned three letters, was honored as Co-Captain of the football team, and made all CIAA Second team in 1958. John was a lifetime member of the Bluefield State College Alumni Association, and was inducted into the 2011 Bluefield State College National “B” Club Hall of Fame for former coaches and athletes. John was a member of the 2008 BSC National Reunion Committee. After graduating from Bluefield State College in 1959, John proudly served in the United States Armed Services as a Private in the Army from October 1959 to February 1963 and was Honorably Discharged. John attended Ohio State University where he received his Certification in Special Education. John worked as a teacher, counselor, and as an Assistant Director of Training for the State of Ohio for 35 years before retiring. In his community of Columbus, Ohio, he worked with the Godman Guild Association as a Counselor with delinquent boys girls. He was a 32nd Degree International Free and Accepted Modern Masons and Order of Eastern Star. John was a member of the Mount Hermon Missionary Baptist Church where he served on the Senior Usher Board. He also established a successful cleaning company and was the owner of the B. Jones Janitorial Service, Inc. for 20 years. John lived his last 2 years in Johns Creek, Ga. John Henry Jones is preceded in death by his parents Floyd and Willie Bell Martin Jones. Brothers Bobby and Carl Jones, James Sonny Jones, Frederick Jones, Thomas Lee Jones, and sister Mary Smith. He leaves to cherish his memory a loving and devoted wife and lifetime friend Stephanie A. Jones, sons Gregory C. (Lindsey) Jones, Carlton E. Jones and Bryan T. Jones. Stepsons Brian Hartley and Brandon Hartley. Brothers Cornelius Papa, Mary Jo Jones, Charles A. (Rena) Jones; sister Lorene Goggins. Grandchildren, Gavin Christopher Jones, Bree, Brandon, Jayden, Freanny, Brayden, Kali and a host of Uncles, Aunts, Nephews, Nieces, Cousins family and friends.
