John Rip Jones, 53, of Columbus, Ohio, peacefully passed away on October 3rd, 2024.
Born on October 19th, 1970, to Revenda Taylor and Johnny Brooks in Brooklyn, New York, Rip was a loving son, brother, proud father, and grandfather. His presence touched many lives, and he will be deeply missed by everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.
Rip had an infectious spirit—a sharp dresser with a heart full of kindness and a quick wit. He cherished family above all else and always made time for those he loved. Whether in New York, Pittsburgh, or Ohio—Rip surrounded himself with family, building memories that will be forever cherished.
A 1988 graduate of Mifflin High School, Rip was known for his smooth charm, loyal friendships, and strong sense of self. His drive to succeed and provide for his family led him to start his own cleaning company, where he made it a mission to offer opportunities to friends and family alike to help lighten their loads.
In his free time, Rip enjoyed traveling with family, playing a competitive game of Tonk, or watching National Geographic specials. He loved taking drives around the city listening to music, but more than anything, Rip enjoyed any moment that brought him closer to family.
Rip wore many hats in life, and each one reflected the deep relationships he built with those around him. Whether known as "Hunnid Grand," "Pawpaw," "Favorite Cousin," "Lil Ugly," or "Dad," he was a source of love and laughter for those fortunate enough to know him. His grandchildren—Aleia, Jaelyn, Amela, Amari Jr., and Josiah—were the joy of his life, soaking up the love and warmth he gave so freely.
Rip was a proud father who never missed a chance to celebrate his children. Amari, Ayana, and Kayla grew up surrounded by his unwavering love and support, knowing he would always be in their corner. He instilled in them the importance of family, strength, and unconditional love, values they will carry with them forever.
Rip is survived by his father, Johnny Brooks (Vanessa); his children: Amari (Chelsea), Kayla (Jamel) and Ayana; and his grandchildren: Aleai, Jaelyn, Amela, Amari Jr., and Josiah. He also leaves behind his sisters Jourdan and Swatasha; aunts Chequita “Quata”, Carolyn, Deidre, Debra, Ruth, and Margreta; uncles Joel and Miakle; his favorite cousin Trecha and a host of close friends and relatives that honor his memory.
Rip is now reunited with his mother, Revenda; his grandparents Lorraine and William Brooks, Clinton and Arlene Jones; great-grandmother Eva J. Johnson; great-aunt Mag; aunts Martha and Crystaline; uncles William and Elec; cousins Jeffrey “Noone” (more like a brother), Lolita, Karen and James “Spanky”.
