Jordan Mitchell Jones, affectionately known as “Jordie,” age 24, made a peaceful transition on Tuesday, November 22, 2016 at The Ohio State University (OSU) Wexner Medical Center/The James, after a valiant battle with Sickle Cell Disease. A resident of Columbus, Ohio, Jordan was a 2011 graduate of Metro Early College High School and attended Columbus State Community College with the plans to pursue a degree in Nursing. He was a member of the City of Zion Church family. Despite his illness, Jordan continued to enjoy life to the fullest. He was a true advocate and warrior for Sickle Cell Disease awareness. As a young child, he served as a Sickle Cell Ambassador for the Ohio Sickle Cell and Health Association (Columbus). He also volunteered with the American Red Cross Central Ohio Blood Services, Nationwide Children’s Hospital (NCH) Sibling Clubhouse, and the Faith Thomas Foundation. In addition, Jordan served on the Advisory Teen Board at NCH. One of Jordan’s personal accomplishments was to serve in a position of responsibility and perform community service as a LIFE Rank scout with the Simon Kenton Council of the Boys Scouts of America. Jordan had a great eye for fashion and always “dressed to impress.” He was a great son, brother, uncle and friend who loved family and genuinely cared for the well-being of others. He was predeceased by his grandparents, McKinley Jones and Christine Jones; uncles, Raymond Jones and Pearl Jones; aunt, Christine Jones. Jordan leaves to cherish his memory his parents, James E. Jones Sr. and Cheryl L Jones; brother, James E. (Charlene) Jones Jr.; grandparents, Ruth Rivers of Middletown, New York, Nathaniel (Jackie) Rivers of Charleston, South Carolina; aunts, Pauline (Julius) Cotton and LaVella Simpson of Middletown, New York; uncles, Bill Jones, Brian Weir, and Bernard Rivers of Middletown, New York; nephew, Jacari P. Jones; special friends, Ki‘Anna Davis, Logan Peoples, Saquena Atkins, and Bryson Boamah; His “Ms. Joyce” Davis; and a host of family and friends in New York, Ohio, and South Carolina. The family wishes to extend a special heartfelt thank you to the physicians and staff at Akron Children’s Hospital, Nationwide Children’s Hospital, The Adult Comprehensive Sickle Cell Program at OSU Wexner Medical Center/The James, and the Campus Dialysis Center for the care they provided to Jordan throughout his courageous battle with Sickle Cell Disease. Jordan believed in education as a key to success. To honor his life and the impact that he had on others, a scholarship fund has been set up in his name. The family requests that memorial gifts be made to the JORDAN M. JONES MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP FUND at the Faith Thomas Foundation, P.O. BOX 30028, Gahanna, Ohio 43230-0028 (MEMO: Jordan M. Jones Memorial Scholarship) or online www.faiththomasfoundation.org.
