Josephine Griffith Charles, the daughter of Isaac Griffith and Cora Griffith Davis, was born October 4, 1932 in Overton, Alabama. She retired from the State of Ohio Youth Services after 33 years of service. She was saved at a very young age and was a faithful member of Asbury North United Methodist Church where she served in numerous capacities, including the Usher Board. She was a life time member of the Bluefield State Alumni Association and Rosenwald-Harlanites, Inc. (Harlan, Kentucky). She also received the Living Faith Award for excellent community service. Josephine lived a full and fruitful life. She loved to cook, write beautiful poetry and enjoyed her family. She departed this life peacefully to join her wonderful husband, Otto on December 18, 2010. She was preceded in death by her sister, Addie Griffith Casey and brothers, Douglas and Joe Griffith. Josephine and Otto were married for 56 years. Out of their union together, they produced two sons, Otto Nick Charles Jr. (Gerda) and Cedric Charles; three grandsons, Michael (LaKisha), Heiko (LaKisha) and Schascha Charles; one granddaughter, Caitlin Whitley Charles; seven great grand children, Marquiston, Deanna, Taylor, Yoshiko, Ke’Azia, Heiko Jr. and Ke’Sasha Charles. She is also survived by her sisters, Ora (Cleve) Westmoreland Sr., Myrtle Wallington, Ruth (Andrew) Aiyeitta; Annie Bonita Griffith, all of Columbus, Ohio and Shirley Bell of Las Vegas, Nevada; brothers, Isaac (Helen) Griffith of San Diego, California and David (Carol) Griffith of Dallas, Texas; and any other nieces, nephews, relatives and dear friends.
