Josephine Tatum

July 2, 1930 — April 19, 2012

Josephine Mundy Jackson Tatum was born in Lynchburg, VA on July 2, 1930 to Joseph Hamlet Mundy and Annie Harris Adkins Mundy. She received her call to join her Heavenly Father on April 19, 2012 at St. Ann's Hospital in Westerville, Ohio. Josephine spent most of her early life in Lynchburg, where she attended Robert S. Payne Elementary and Dunbar High School. She received her diploma from Central High School in Columbus, Ohio. She was a super athlete as a teenager and won many and various citywide tournaments. She grew up in Peaceful Baptist Church on Pierce Street in Lynchburg, where she served for a time as organist. After moving to Columbus, Ohio, she served as church secretary at Jerusalem Baptist Church, a deaconess, secretary and minister of music at Loving Charity Baptist Church and deaconess at Corinthian Missionary Baptist Church. She worked at The Ohio State University Hospital for many years and later worked for Lifecare Alliance Meals-on-Wheels. She provided daycare to her grandkids, neighbors kids and other families and was like a MOM to many. Josephine had a kind heart and loving spirit and will always be loved and adored, not only by her family, but by others whom she came in contact with throughout her life. She was a quiet and reserved individual, but was strong willed, which she demonstrated as she fought so dilligently through her illness. Her sweet smile, loving touch and piano playing will be greatly missed! She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Robert Edward Jackson; brothers, Frank Mundy and John Henry Adkins; sisters, Lucretia Mundy and Louise Adkins Smith. She leaves to cherish her memory her husband, Thomas Lee Tatum; daughters Marion (James Sr.) Brown and Arthenia (Tina) Turner of Columbus, Ohio; sisters Helen Mundy Witt of Lynchburg, VA., Shirley Thornhill Mundy Colden of Petersburg, VA; sisters-in-law, Flossie Adkins of Lynchburg,VA and Willie Mae Tatum of Tuskegee, AL; cousin, Howard Bolden, of Lynchburg, VA; grandchildren Keith Harris, David Burke, Donn Turner, Tanitia Brown, James Brown, Jr., Artina Turner and Timothy Brown, Sr., all of Columbus, Ohio and Belynda Thomas and LaJuan Towe of Lynchburg, VA.; 17 great- grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends, including her special 4-legged friend Roscoe.
