Joyce Anne Clark

June 14, 1936 — December 10, 2019

Our family would like to share with you that Joyce received an invitation for an offer she can’t refuse. This assignment comes with an incredible new experience, including a reunion with family and friends she has not seen in a long time. Our beloved Joyce Clark entered into eternal rest on December 10th, 2019. She was born on June 14th 1936 and was raised on the eastside of the city of Columbus. Joyce attended Saint Cyprian Catholic Grade School, St. Mary’s High School in German Village. Afterward, she attended both Cuyahoga Community College and Franklin University. At 14 years old, she met the love of her life, Rayvon Clark who was a lifeguard at Maryland Park swimming pool where her dad worked as a manager. They married about 4 years later and during their union they were blessed with 3 children. Ray Jr., Paula and Johnny. After many years, they parted ways, but stayed close in friendship. She began her career with the State of Ohio, starting with the Ohio State legislature as a Supervisor in the Steno Pool. In 1974, she moved to northeast Ohio and continued her career as Validation Supervisor at the start of the Ohio lottery. Upon moving back to Columbus, she continued with the State of Ohio working in the Department of Transportation and retired from the Office of Correctional Institution Inspection Committee. She was an advocate for inmates and their families. She inspected prisons and made impactful recommendations for improvement. During her tenure she was appointed to serve on the Governor’s Task Force on Incarcerated Women, under Governor Celeste. Joyce was a classy lady and valued staying active throughout her life. She enjoyed modeling, partying with friends, traveling and to enjoy not only special occasions, but many opportunities to gather with family and friends. She absolutely loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Through her support, tried to attend as many of their celebrations and activities as much as she could. As an avid reader, she loved reading novels by James Patterson. Joyce was a proud resident of “The Bottoms” on the west side of Columbus.
