Joyce Pillow

Joyce Elizabeth Nix Pillow, 92 years old, of Columbus, Ohio, passed away peacefully at home September 5, 2023.

She was born in Columbus, Ohio on May 4th, 1931 to the late Edward and Geraldine (Carpenter) Nix. Joyce graduated from East High School and attended Hampton Institute (University) earning a B.S. in English. Joyce retired from Columbus Public School System after serving as an educator for 35 years.

Joyce was born into Shiloh Baptist Church where her mother and father served. She later joined the church at 10 years old on Easter Sunday when she was baptized. She served on many committees and boards over the years. She served in the Royal Aids, the Scholarship committee, and became a tutor for children to name a few.

She is preceded in death by her father Edward Nix, mother Geraldine Nix, husband Walter Pillow, daughter Brenda Pillow-Murphy, Brother, Edward L. Nix. She is survived by her loving daughters Pamela Pillow-Spurgeon (Robert), and Diane Pillow-Taylor, nieces Eileen Madison, and Jennifer Rodriquez (Juan) as well as many family and friends to cherish her memory.

She loved to sing praise songs and reading her bible spending time with her Father in Heaven. She loved her family and friends.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, September 23, 2023 from 9:00 am - 10:00 am with a Funeral Service immediately following at Shiloh Baptist Church 720 Mount Vernon Ave, Columbus, OH 43203. Burial will follow in procession to Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens.
