Juanita Horton Bryant

March 20, 1929 — February 2, 2015

On February 2, 2015, our family lost a Mother, Grandmother, Auntie, and most of all, a Friend with a beautiful smile. On February 2, 2015, Juanita Horton Webster Bryant went to sleep in Jesus. Juanita Horton Webster Bryant was born March 20, 1929 in Cedar Bluff, Alabama. She attended Alabama AM University in the 1940s. In 1974, Juanita received her Master’s degree in Early Childhood Development. In 1949, Juanita married Charles Gene Webster, Sr. This union, bore two children: Charles Gene Webster, Jr. and Deborah Renita Webster. Juanita was a “Woman of God”, and was baptized into the First Seventh-day Adventist Church of Huntsville, Alabama in 1962. She and her family were active members in various areas of the church. In 1975, Juanita married her second husband, Howard “J.C.” Bryant of Flint, Michigan and they were blessed with 34 years of matrimony. After their wedding ceremony, she relocated to Flint. During Juanita’s residence there, she was a teacher, and soon joined Home Suburban Realty, where she worked with her husband for 33 years because of her love for people. Juanita attended Fairhaven Seventh-day Adventist Church, where she was a Substitute teacher, Principal, and served on the Junior Academy’s School Board as Chairperson. Soon, she became President of the Federated Kings Daughters’ Club, which is a group of ladies involved in community work, helping the homeless with clothing and personal needs through the Homeless Service Providers. They helped serve food at the Soup Kitchen on a monthly basis and offered scholarships to deserving students. In March of 1998, Juanita was featured in the Spotlight News for her accomplishments with this organization. In 2010, Juanita relocated from Flint to Columbus, Ohio in order to be near her daughter and grandchildren, Brian Anthony Harris and Erin Mikale Harris. She began attending the Worthington Seventh-day Adventist Church for over four years. Juanita truly enjoyed the spiritual affirmations, the kind words, and the fellowship she found with this congregation. Juanita never met a stranger, she loved talking to everyone. Surviving to carry on her legacy are her daughter, Deborah R. Harris; an adopted niece, S. Renee’ Carnegie-Chase; seven stepdaughters, Shirley R. Bryant of Willow, Pennsylvania, Serita (Frank) Jones of Atlanta, Georgia, Linda (Jimmie) Strong of Olympia, Fields, Illinois, Conti (Allan) Norris, Chisandra (Fred) Lambert, Terri (Rufus) Braggs, and Yvonne Bryant, all of Flint, Michigan; 18 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren, one sister, Edith Jean (Alfred) Cooper of Alexander City, Alabama; one brother, David (Dorothy) Horton of Cedar Bluff, Alabama; and a host of nieces and nephews. Juanita was preceded in death by two husbands, Charles Webster, Sr. and Howard “J.C.” Bryant, son, Charles Webster, Jr., mother and father, Ira Dallas and Ida Belle Horton, four brothers, Joel Edwin, Sgt. Paul Judson, Ira D. Jr, and Waymon Edward, three sisters, Maggie McCalep, Flora Horton, and Annie Harkness, son-in-law, Smith Anthony Harris, and stepson, Reginald Bryant.
