Juanita M. Thompson, age 81, of Pickerington, OH, went to be with the Lord on New Year’s Day, 2015. She passed away peacefully at MCHE with husband Wendell holding her hand. Juanita attended East High. After graduation, she worked in Accident Records for the Columbus Police Dept. She and her four children left Columbus in 1967 and drove to the Republic of Panama where she began working for the U.S. Navy as a DoD civilian living in the Canal Zone. There she met Wendell, where he was stationed with the U.S. Army. They married in 1972 and had the adventure of a lifetime, joining Wendell for the last 21 of his 30 years in his military assignments to Arizona, California, Japan, Panama, Georgia, back to Japan, and ending at Ft. Meade, MD. Singing was Juanita’s passion. She sang with the chapel choirs at each Army post where she resided. Also, she sang with the Army Band at each location but Ft. Meade. In 1995 she retired from DCSC in Columbus, OH. Juanita was pre3deceased by her parents, Benjamin Redd and Rose Redd Anthony; beloved aunt and uncle, Sarah F. and Andrew J. Mizelle; brother, Kenneth Mizelle, and great-granddaughter, Tamara Elizabeth Thompson. Juanita leaves to cherish her memory her husband, Wendell Thompson; daughters, Denise Martin (Curtis), Anita Watkins, Renee Richardson, Tamara and Tanishia Thompson; son, Romie Watkins, III (Wanda); 9 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; as well as her nieces and nephews. She will be greatly missed by family and friends.
