Juanita Rose Haynesworth

Juanita Rose Manley-Haynesworth was born July 30, 1926 in East Liverpool, Ohio, she transitioned to her heavenly reward on Friday, July 6, 2018 quietly at her home at the age of 91. She is predeceased by her parents James and Hilda Mahoney-Manley, husband Collins, Sr., brother Eugene and sister Delores. Juanita grew up in Cleveland, Ohio. She was a honor student at Central High School where she met Collins and graduated in 1944 as Class Valedictorian and the same year she attended Ohio State University where she, along with 3 friends, were the first Black female students allowed to live in a on-campus dormitory. At OSU she majored in Secondary Education and when asked why she chose that major she said “it wasn’t much of a choice,” her desire was to be a designer but was dissuaded, because it was not a field for women of color at that time. Juanita joined the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority as a sophomore in 1945 and at the time of her passing, held the honorable title of “Delta Dear” an honor bestowed upon members who have actively served the sorority for 50 years or more. Collins and Juanita eloped and were married on October 11, 1946 and made Columbus their permanent home in 1949 and joined Bethany Presbyterian Church at that time. At Bethany she assumed many duties: member of Session, Trustee, Chancel Choir member, a member of Presbyterian Women (PW), and served on many other committees. She remained a very active member of her church and sorority until she was prevented by health limitations. She had been an active member of the Linden Community Advisory Board. She was considered a "neighborhood mom" and was respected and looked up to by all the neighborhood youth - she could hardly ever step out of her door without a chorus of "Hi Mrs. Haynesworth!!!" from everyone who saw her. She personified compassion, generosity, positivity and selflessness. She is survived by sons Collins “Linnie” Jr., Gregory (Cheri), David (Janessa), and daughter Jan. Grandchildren Shecola (Curtis) Hewlett-Leggs, Talish Smith, Greg “Deuce” (Destiny) Haynesworth, Diamond Littlefield, Brandy (Mario) West-Jackson, Eric Haynesworth, Dorian Sutton, Shirocco Haynesworth, Tiara Haynesworth, Tanasia Harris, Dalin Jefferson, Delaney Boyd, Kendall Boyd, Tommie Martin IV. 14 great grandchildren, 1 great great granddaughter, brothers Virgil Manley Sr. and Ronald Manley, a host of nephews, nieces and cousins.
