Julian L. Lewis, Sr, 84, born in Sheffield, Alabama where he received his grade school education and was a member of Boy Scout Troop 169 and a 2nd class Scout. He graduated from Alabama AM University where he received the Bachelor of Science degree in Secondary Education with minors in Biology and English. He attended The University of North Carolina (Chapel Hill) where he received the Master of Public Health degree. He served in the U.S. Army with 18 months in Germany. He was the first African-American to serve as Executive Director of local affiliates of two national organizations, the Leukemia Society of America and the American Lung Association, both in Cleveland, Ohio. After over 30 years of health experiences, he retired from the Ohio Department of Health where he was a Tobacco Program Consultant. He has been a member of St. Paul A.M.E. Church since 1989. His past experience includes being a member of the Board of Trustees and Co-Chair of the Jam-N-Jefferson Park. He was a member of the Lay Organization, Health Concerns Committee Servamus Club (President) and the St. Paul Male Chorus. He was a life member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. with 62 years of service. He is predeceased by spouses, Laura Ann (Penn) Lewis and Delphine (Howard) Lewis and son, Gary Scott Lewis. He is survived by son, Julian L.(Debra) Lewis Jr.; daughters, Julianne Cash, Crystal Kennerly; step children, Alex Howard, Cisha (David Sr.) Roberts and five grandchildren, Jonathan, Jaiden and Denise; Kennerly all residing in the Cleveland Area; Cameron Howard and David Roberts, Jr..
