Kathryn Washington was born on December 11, 1920 in Albany, Georgia to the late William White and Mattie Bell. At the early age of 3, the family moved to Detroit, Michigan where she attended Detroit Public Schools, graduating from Northeastern High School. She was employed with Child’s Research Center (Children’s Hospital) for over 35 years, where she worked, over the years, side by side with her mother; her sister, Frances and niece, Geraldine (Tee). Kathryn was a 50+ member of the Warren Avenue Baptist Church, where she served as the secretary of the Nurses Guild for many years. Her faith in God, was what sustained during her life. Kathryn was united in holy matrimony to the late James Washington, in 1958. To this union, three children were born. An avid lover of Pokeno, Kathryn was one of the founding member of the Socialites Club; a group of ladies who not only played Keno, but traveled yearly together for over 20 years. A stranger to no one, Kathryn was loved by all who came in contact with her. In 2008, she relocated to Columbus, Ohio and began attending the Heritage Adult Day Care Center; where the staff and residents quickly became her new family. Kathryn, the oldest descendent of the Bell Family, peacefully and quietly left this earthly tabernacle to be the Lord on Sunday, March 6, 2011. She joined her husband; her parents; siblings, Georgianna, Moses, William, Frances and Helen; and all the other family members. She leaves to cherish her memory, her son, Stanley J. (Veda) Washington; daughters, Arlene J. Lawrence and Judy K. Blumberg; six grandsons, Daryl (LaQuisha) and Terrance (LaShonda) Lawrence; Kareem (Kim), Saddi (Channon) and Famound Washington and Dejuan (Emily) Blumberg; special daughter, Shirley (Kenneth) Towns-Meeks; 12 great grand children as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends in Detroit, Michigan and Columbus, Ohio.
