Kenneth Odell Ziglar, a proud, decorated veteran of the United States Army, passed away on Monday, June 24 at his home in Columbus, Ohio.
Kenny, as he was affectionately known, was born April 11, 1946, in Columbus to J. Odell and E. Lucerne Ziglar. The eldest of four children, Kenny attended East High School and had an artistic flair for crafting miniature model clay cars.
He enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1966, serving as an infantryman during the Vietnam War. Kenny rose to the rank of sergeant and received the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Campaign Medal w/Device, the Vietnam Service Medal, and the Sharpshooter, Expert and Combat Infantry badges.
After returning to civilian life in Columbus, Kenny worked for local moving companies, in maintenance at White Castle, and as a rental car driver for Avis.
Kenny is survived by his son, Brian Ziglar; siblings Ferne Ziglar and Vincent Ziglar; stepdaughters Cerrie Barnes and Vinita Clark; stepson Bobby Clark; step grandchildren Kennedy Barnes and Cevin Barnes; stepson-in-law Darin Barnes; as well as a nephew, nieces, great nieces, cousins and other relatives, neighbors, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother B. Barrett Ziglar and special friend Diane Clark.
Our dear Kenny and young Kennedy’s “Pawpaw” will be remembered for his extraordinary compassion, love for family and giving spirit.
A Memorial Service will take place Friday, July 5 at Diehl Whittaker Funeral Services, 1370 East Main Street, Columbus, Ohio. Visitation will begin at 1:00 pm and the service will follow at 2:00 pm. There will be a military salute at the beginning of the service.
