Kimberly K. Porter was born April 24, 1965 on Petoskey Ave, Detroit, Michigan to the parents of Samuel James Jr. and Vickie Elaine Porter. She then moved to Columbus, OH where she attended Walnut Ridge High School and Fort Hayes Career Center. Upon graduation from high school, she enrolled into Cosmetology School and received her beautician’s license. She started working at an early age, with first her career move being a Cosmetologist at Isabelle Ridgeway. During this time she enjoyed living and socializing with friends and family in her first apartment which being at the age of 18. Kim then received her Computer Specialist Associates degree. The opportunity arose for her to start her cable career at Time Warner communications. She worked at Time Warner for a little over four years, and then she was offered a promotion to work at Coaxial Communications which later become known as Insight Communications. Kim was known to go against the grain; some may remember her all pink apartment off Bryden Road, or her unique hair styles, method of dress, and way dealing with things. During early years of living and celebrating life she received the joyous news that she was pregnant with a bouncing baby boy. She gave birth to Mark Mathews Jr. on April 14, 1988 in Columbus Ohio. Then Kim came to venture into home ownership. She ventured out to find a small paradise to call her own. She found a quant 4 bedroom, 2 full baths home. She was very proud to be a home owner in early twenties. Kim soon was smitten by young man who courted her daily during work at Insight Communications, James Young. James and Kim were married June 29, 1996. Tragedy struck the family in early 1997 and Kim’s father, Samuel J Porter Jr., came down with cancer. With the wishes of her father to be in loving care of family, Kim took him into her home and became his hospice care giver. She took care of him day and night until his last breath. Kim was mothers’ rock (Vickie Porter) during the passing of her father. A few months later she received the news of expecting again! This time to a gleeful, smiley little girl, Malyia Young born on August 21, 1997. Kim found an additional calling of helping other families in need by becoming the beautician at Diehl-Whittaker Funeral Service. As a proud mother, she watched her son, Mark Mathews, walk across the stage upon graduation from Walnut Ridge High school, her Alma mater by the way, in June 2006. Malyia at this time, studied at Woodcrest Elementary, where she performed in various talent shows. During these years Kim enjoyed spending time and dining with family and friends. Mark started exploring career choices and Malyia graduated to Sherwood Middle school. During the final years late 2000’s, Kim’s life was filled with family outings to places such as water parks, state parks, barbeques, birthday parties, work outings, cooking, and spending quality time with her mother. Also during this time Kim was preparing her daughter (Malyia) for her next adventure, high school. Kim enrolled Malyia into Art College Prep Academy (APCA), a high school which specializes in the arts. Kim’s plans for the future will be carried out by family and her legacy will live on.
