Larcena Martin

December 17, 1952 — September 8, 2024

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Larcena "Bobbie" Martin, a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. Bobbie passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 8th, 2024, at the age of 71. Born on December 17th, 1952 in Panama City, Florida, Bobbie made her home in Columbus, Ohio, where she touched the lives of many with her kindness, wit, and unwavering spirit.

Bobbie leaves behind a legacy of love and joy. She is survived by her loving mother, Louise White; her devoted sons, Shunnye (Chanda) Dunlap and Ilungo Dunlap; and her cherished sisters, Linda Hendree and Gloria Woodard. She also leaves behind a host of adoring grandchildren – Xavier Dunlap, Trevon McClure, Naquasha Hendree-Williams, Nazhelle Williams, Naudya Dunlap, and Keeshaun Dunlap – along with numerous great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and friends who loved her dearly. Bobbie was predeceased by her husband, Otto Humphrey Martin, and her daughter, Natasha Michelle Hendree-Williams.

Bobbie pursued her passion for helping others through a career in healthcare, obtaining her Nurse’s Aide training at St. Anthony's Medical Center and Park Medical Center. She devoted many years to the community through her work as a nurse's assistant at these institutions. Additionally, she worked as a bartender at Cannon Bar and as a warehouse associate at Mushroom Shoe Company.

A woman of many interests, Bobbie had a deep love for sweets, especially anything chocolate, and enjoyed spending time with her family, camping, shopping, and traveling. Her zest for life was evident in her teenage and early adulthood years, during which she was known for her rambunctious and adventurous spirit. Music, particularly R&B by her favorite artist Luther Vandross, was a source of great joy for her. Bobbie was also an exceptional pool player.

As a dedicated member of the Tabernacle Baptist Church, Bobbie was actively involved in the church community. She was a cherished member of the Nurses Ministry and ran the concession stand during the church's youth basketball games, affectionately known as Bobbie’s Concessions. The children always looked forward to seeing Mrs. Bobbie, knowing that there would be delicious snacks awaiting them.

Family and friends are invited to celebrate Bobbie’s life at a Visitation on Friday, September 27th, 2024, from 3:00 pm to 4:00 pm at Tabernacle Baptist Church in Columbus, OH. This will be immediately followed by a Memorial Service from 4:00 pm to 5:00 pm at the same location.

The arrangements are being handled by Diehl-Whittaker Funeral Service. Bobbie's family would like to extend their deepest gratitude for the outpouring of love and support during this difficult time.

Bobbie will be greatly missed, but her spirit will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved her. May she rest in peace.
