Deacon Lawrence Gene Larkins, Sr. was born in Wheatcroft, Kentucky, on March 13, 1936, to the late Gertrude Larkins and Charles Lee. He was received by God into his heavenly home on the afternoon of January 31, 2023.
Deacon Larkins was a longtime resident of the Village of Urbancrest, Ohio, and member of Union Baptist Church, where he served as Deacon Chairman for over forty years spanning three pastoral administrations. He retired from the City of Columbus Department of Sanitation, and also served as Standard Bearer of the Supreme 33rd Degree Council, the highest degree of International F.A.M. Mason and Order of the Eastern Star. Next to his love for God, Deacon Larkins absolutely adored his family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Gertrude Larkins and Charles Lee; wife, Vivian Jean (Mitchell) Larkins; sisters, Etta Mae Davis, Gertrude McElroy, Aprilene McKnight, and Wila Morgan; brother-in-law Charles Mitchell; son-in-law Robert Turner; and grandson Isaac Forte.
He leaves to cherish his memory, sister, Evelyn McBroom; children, Deborah (Clefton) Larkins-Jackson, Lawrence Larkins, Jr. (Juanita Burley), Steven (Rose) Larkins, Pamela Turner, and Vickie (Bryan) Larkins-Forte; 11 beloved grandchildren; a host of special great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.
Wait on the Lord: be of good courage, and He shall strengthen thine heart: wait, I say, on the Lord. Psalm 27:1
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations are made to Union Baptist Church (3452 First Avenue, Urbancrest, Oh 43123, Pastor David L. Powell, Sr.) in honor of Deacon Larkins
