Lela Mae Hale was born July 13, 1953 in Wetumpka, Alabama. She attended and graduated from Elmo High School and attended Hopewell Baptist Church with her family. She married Frankie Lee Hale in 1974 and then she and her family moved to Columbus, Ohio in pursuit of new opportunities. Lela was a longtime employee of The Ohio State University and a dedicated servant to the work of the Ministry. Lela was known for being a praying woman of faith and her ministry took her around the world, praying and ministering to the broken, the fatherless, strangers, orphans, and widows. The last years of her life were spent beside her sons at The City of David Church where she poured her love and spiritual wisdom into the people who came searching for Christ. Those whose lives were impacted by her life and ministry will forever feel her imprint. Lela Mae Hale is preceded in death by her mother and stepfather Irene and Luther Nolen Jr., brother Jimmy Nolen, and sisters Virginia Hall (George), Jackie Hibbler, and Ann Pearl Fields. She is survived by her father, Levi McCoy; husband, Frankie Lee Hale; sons Christopher Hale, Cornelius Hale (Courtney), and Cedric Hale; grandsons Diamaunte Hale, De’Vion Hale, and Christian Hale; brother Johnny James (Roxanne) and sister Gloria Bosley (Charles). Lela also leaves behind a number of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends with whom she shared her life and love.
