Leonard Fred Lewis, Sr. was born January 11, 1936 to Inez Mae Lewis and Samuel H. Lewis, Sr. in Charleston, West Virginia. A 1953 graduate of Garnett High School, in Charleston, Leonard completed a 4-yr. enlistment with the U.S. Air Force and was honorably discharged in 1960. He retired from Nationwide Insurance Co. after 35 years of service and then worked as a bus driver for ten years with Columbus City Schools. Known to many friends and loved ones as Lenny, he enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He was a member of New Birth Christian Ministries in Columbus. On March 16, 2017, at the age of 81, Leonard passed away while at the Scioto Community Care Center in Columbus. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his twin brother Leon Lewis, sisters, Marie Hawes, Juanita Davison, and Janet Lewis, and grandson Andrew Lewis. He leaves to cherish his memories, beloved wife Maxine E. Lewis; daughters, Melinda (Quincy) Howard of Reynoldsburg, Ohio, and Lisa (Rodney) Hopkins of Lewis Center, Ohio; son Leonard Jr. (Angela) of Columbus; brothers, Samuel H. Lewis, Jr., Don (Thelma) Lewis, both of Charleston, and Harold (Betty) Lewis of Columbus; sister Christine Dickerson of Charleston; grandchildren, Angelo Brown, Brandon Lewis, Sydney Howard, Ryan Hopkins, and Reggie Hopkins; and a host of other relatives and friends.
