Leslie Brenda Johnson was born in Tuskegee, Alabama, on Friday, April 25, 1941. She was the oldest daughter born to Samuel and Annie Lee Lampkin. Leslie grew up in White Plains, New York, where she graduated from White Plains High School. On January 4, 1957, Leslie was presented as a debutante at the Westchester County Center, which was sponsored by the George Washington Carver Community Center.
Leslie was united in marriage to Mr. Charles W. Johnson Jr., who was United States Air Force Veteran. Together, they raised three children: Kimberley, Corwrin, and Pia. Charles passed in 2011.
Leslie was employed by IBM and Magi, as a data entry operator, until she retired. She also worked part-time at the Hawthorne Quality Inn/Comfort Inn Suites as concierge.
Leslie was a devoted daughter, sister, aunt, wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. She was a lover of animals, especially her cats, Nono and Callie. Leslie enjoyed spending time with family on outings, reading mysteries, playing scrabble, watching the Indy 500, and listening to all kinds of music, especially rock — her favorite! She did not allow grass to grow under her feet; for she enjoyed nature walks at Harbor Island Park in Mamaroneck, New York, driving around town sightseeing, and most definitely, finding sweet treats. In 2017, Leslie moved to Columbus, Ohio, to live with her children.
Leslie was fondly called “Cakes” by her husband, Charles, “Nanny” by her nieces and nephews, “Granny” by her grandchildren, and “Pitbull” by a long-time family friend. Blessed with eighty-two years of life, our beloved Leslie B. Johnson entered eternal rest on Sunday, June 11, 2023. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Charles W. Johnson Jr.; aunts, Berthena, Josephine, Marie, Oteria; and uncle, Ludie.
Leslie leaves behind her three children: Kimberley, Corwrin, Pia; grandchildren, Hannah and Jayden; sisters, Lois, Bernice, Elaine, and Tina (Fred) Veasley; brothers-in-law, Larry (Shirley) Johnson and Jerry (Pat) Johnson; nieces, Lauren, Allison, Vanessa, Joanna, Briana, and Shayla; nephews, Adam, Sean, and Morgan; a host of half-siblings, extended family, and dear friends.
