Lillie G. Moorehead Collins

May 24, 1931 — December 14, 2021

On Tuesday, December 14, 2021, Lillie Grey Moorehead Collins, received her wings to heaven. She was a daughter, sister, wife, mother, and grandmother. Lillie was born to James and Sallie Moorehead on May 24, 1931, in the small town of Gary, West Virginia. At a young age, the Moorehead family moved to Eden, North Carolina. The youngest of her siblings, Lillie was loved and cherished by her brothers and sisters as well as her parents. After high school, Lillie attended Bennett College in Greensboro, North Carolina, a historically black college for women. After two years, she followed her older sister Pearle Jamison to Columbus, Ohio to live. It is there she met her husband, Willard "Brett" Collins. They would share together in 66 years of marriage. From their union, they would welcome five children: Keith, Linda, Victor, Maurice and Willate (Francine). Lillie is preceded in death by her husband, Willard; daughters, Linda Alexander, Francine Collins; son, Victor Collins; parents, James and Sallie Moorehead; sisters, Katherine (Pearle) Jamison, Mary Moorehead; brothers, James, Curtis, Robert and Porter Moorehead. She is survived by sons, Keith (Wilma) and Maurice (Karen), sister, Elizabeth Jumper of Eden, NC, a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins. It brings the family great comfort to know her granddaughter, Lawanna McClendon, was by her side at the time of her passing.
