Linda Marie West, dearly loved daughter, sister and aunt passed away suddenly on July, 18, 2011, in Jamaica, New York. Ms West as she was affectionately called by her students was born July 28, 1950 in Columbus, Mississippi. She left there at an early age traveling the world as an army brat and finally settling in Jamaica, New York. Linda received a Bachelor's from Brooklyn College, New York and two Masters Degrees from Long Island University, New York. She believed in education and educating, which she did while working with her students during her many years of employment with the NYC Department of Education. Linda was also very active in many community organizations; she cared deeply for others, and could be counted on for her volunteerism. Linda's life would seem too short to many, but those who were touched by her understood that the quality of existence far exceeds the quantity of time in which one lives. Her faith and love of GOD, her gentle smile, encouraging words, beautiful giving spirit and her ability to empower us with her fierceness and strong sense of afro-centric pride and heritage touched us and brought so much joy. If Linda were here to speak to us, she would remind each of us to be patient with each other, say something kind to one another every day, laugh everyday and know that nothing is promised. Linda was so beloved, and will be deeply missed by her family and friends. Linda loved life, and of the things that mattered most to her, was her family. She is preceded in death by her mother, Mamie West and sister, Patricia Ann West and is survived by her loving family; father, Phil West Jr. (Ohio); sisters, Gariel Moore (twin) (James) Pa, Julia West Johnson (Gregory) New Jersey and Denise West White (Willie) Ohio; brothers, Dwayne West (Lisha) Ohio and Michael West (Delesia) Ohio; three nephews, Richard Johnson (New Jersey), Jasan Meadows (Virginia) and Levi McNair (Ohio); two nieces, Shurelle Stewart (Ohio) and Kennedy West (Ohio); special aunts, Cora Whitfield (New York) and Carrie Jackson (Michael) Texas; cousin, Booker Bud Smith (Ohio); long time friend and companion, Agnew James (Georgia) and many loving family and friends.
