Sunrise May 14, 1934 -- Sunset February 6, 2021 Lois L. Cummings was born in Dixon Mills, Alabama to Lucretia and Dossie Griffin on May 14, 1934. She departed this life on Saturday, February 6, 2021, at Grant Medical Hospital. Lois was baptized at a young age at Shiloh Baptist Church in Marengo County, Alabama, and was a long-time member of Mt Olivet Baptist Church in Columbus, Ohio. She retired from White Castle Systems after many years of service. Knitting was just one of her many talents. She was also gifted with a green thumb and loved working in her yard where she grew the most beautiful flowers. She was an avid sports fan, and anytime you were in her home there was a sporting event, football, basketball, tennis and golf when Tiger Woods was playing, on the television. She had strong opinions and could debate an issue with the best of us, but always with an open mind and heart. And that flair, she just had that “it” factor when it came to fashion, and she owned the most fabulous collection of designer hats that she wore extremely well. As the matriarch of the family, as she often reminded us, she collected and filled her home with black history memorabilia, books, and photos. She loved taking pictures and had many photo albums documenting many years of family gatherings and milestones for future generations. Lois had a positive, can-do attitude and if she wanted something, she got it. She traveled to Africa (a lifelong dream to return to the Mother Land), visited the White House during the Obama years (she was a staunch supporter of both President Barack and Michelle Obama); and she never forgot her roots, always returning home to Alabama, particularly for the 4th Sunday in August. She will be deeply missed, but her spirit will always have a special place in our hearts. Lois was preceded in death by her loving husband Willie Joe Cummings, parents Lucretia and Dossie Griffin of Dixon Mills, Alabama; sisters Carrie (Clyde) Hackworth, Barbara (Carl) Curtis, Doris Palmer; brother James Douglas Griffin; and brother-In-Law Charlie Mack; nephews Michael Hackworth and Keith Hackworth; great nephew Troy Hayes; nieces Carlynn Mae Curtis and Donna Jean Palmer; and special friend Bertha Jefferson. Left to cherish her memory is her loving son Larry (Beverly) Cummings; granddaughters Danielle (Elvis) Eaton and Dominique (Donovan) Lomax; great grandson Elson Eaton; sisters Dorothy Mack and Lucinda Thompson, sister-in-law Betty Griffin; brothers Murray (Debra) Griffin and Rufus (Darlene) Griffin; brother-in-law Steve Faison; aunt, Geneva Barrax; nephews Monte Hackworth, Gene (Sheila) Curtis, Kevin Curtis, Anthony (Shenice) Palmer, Donald (Mary) Palmer, Rodney (Lisa) Palmer; Andre (Erica) Palmer; Joseph Griffin, James (Jenny) Griffin, Quincy Griffin, Calvin Griffin, Curtis (Debbie) Mack, and Erick Thompson; nieces Lynn Hackworth, Latricia Curtis; Rene Taylor, Brenda Henry, Nicole Griffin, Angie (Steve) Anthony, Monica Thompson, and Kalin Palmer (Ira); Goddaughter Nicole Harris; cousins Jan Campbell, John Campbell, Joy Campbell and June Green; as well as a host of other loving family members and friends.
