Ms. Loretta Mae Slappy Carsey, was born September 23, 1942 in Waukegan, Illinois, to the late Rev. Joseph and Mrs. Ida Mae Slappy. Our beloved sister, Ms. Loretta Mae Slappy. Age 74, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, April 23, 2017 at the Summits Trace Healthcare Center. Predeceased by her parents Rev. Joseph and Ida Slappy, brother John Slappy and sister Margret Fisher. She was the eldest living sibling of the Slappy Family of Columbus, Ohio Loretta graduated from Central High School and continued her education to obtain certificates in Business and Office Education. She was gainfully employed by the Columbus State Community College where she worked for over 20 years, in the Word Processing Department as an Office Assistant, Secretary and Coordinator of the Proof Readers for the college. Mom and Dad named her Loretta, but we called her (Retta). Our sister Loretta was not only the eldest sibling, but she was our protector, and the family advisor. From a young age she was taught the importance of loving God and family. She loved and nurtured her younger sisters and brothers throughout her life. Nothing would come between her and the love she had rooted deep for her family. At times when the family would not see eye to eye, Loretta would drop the anchor, take the helm and guide us back in place to remind us how our Father and Mother raised us. We are family, brothers and sisters and we are to love one another. Yes, Loretta was caption of the ship, if you didn’t straighten up, she would make you walk the plank. She accepted the Lord in her life and began her Christian journey. She became a member of St. Mathew Fire Baptized Holiness Church and attended services faithfully until her health began to fail. Although she was not able to attend services she would faithfully study her bible and the Sunday school lessons. Her faith in God never ceased to decrease. On many occasions while in the nursing home at Arbors East she would attend and sometimes lead the bible study group, and share the good news of her Lord and savior, Jesus Christ. Often when the residents and staff employees were faced with discouragement, they would step into Ms. Loretta’s room to receive encouragement and to hear a word of wisdom from her. Many of you may know, our sister Loretta had no problem in telling you the truth. “And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.” John 8:32 KJV the truth in her life was Jesus Christ. She knew him, loved Him and accepted His invitation, when she heard the voice of Jesus say, “come unto to me and rest. Lay down thy weary one lay down thy head upon thy breast.” We say rest on, my sister. You did what Dad and Mother taught you to do, Love God and Family. And we say, thank you Retta for all that you have done. You may be gone from our sight, but will always remain in our hearts; we bow our heads to the will of our sovereign God that does all things well! “Let not your heart be troubled; ye believe in God believe also in me. In my father’s house are many mansions; If it were not so. I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And If I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you unto Myself; that where I am, there you may be also.” John 14:1-3 To God Be the Glory for the Things He Has Done!
