Loring Godfrey Gomer, Jr. was born on May 24, 1940 in Columbus, Ohio to the union of Loring and Catherine Gomer. He graduated from Columbus East High School. He was a member of Barnett Road Baptist Church, where he was a faithful worker in the food pantry ministry until his illness prevented him from doing so. Sonny married Vernita Polly Anderson, on November 15, 1961 and to this union one child, Renita, was born. He was a Civil Engineer for the City of Columbus Street Maintenance Department and retired after 33 years of being a Snow Warrior. He also owned and operated Gomer's Blacktop Sealing in his spare time for 30 years before retiring fully in 2006. Loring spent many weekends fishing on Lake Erie. He was a member of the Cups Saucers Social Club and The Tuskegee Airmen, Inc. Ohio Memorial Chapter. Loring passed away suddenly in his home on Tuesday, November 29, 2011. He was preceded in death by his parents, Loring and Catherine Gomer. He leaves to cherish his memories, wife Vernita Gomer; daughter Renita (Christopher) Peck; brother-in-law William (Tawana) Hamilton of Earlington, KY; and a host of relatives and friends.
