LOUELLA HODNETT was born in Lanett, Alabama, on Sunday, February 14, 1932, to the union of Susie Hodge and Nelson Tucker, Sr. Louella was affectionately called ‘Sister’ or ‘Lou’ by family and friends. She joined the St. John Baptist Church, in West Pointe, Georgia, at the age of nine and served on the Usher Board. Louella moved to Columbus, Ohio on November 14, 1952. She joined the Friendship Missionary Baptist Church in 1953 and was a dedicated member for over sixty years. Sister Hodnett was a faithful member of Friendship’s Jubilee Choir and the Women’s Fellowship for many years. Louella Tucker was united in holy matrimony to Fuller ‘Phillip’ Hodnett, on September 19, 1953. They were the loving parents of five children. Louella worked at the Ohio Department of Taxation for over fifteen years. Her husband preferred that she not work outside the home, so Louella left that job and focused on rearing their children and taking care of her family and home. Louella enjoyed crocheting, cooking, and colleting coins, which she and Fuller liked to roll. She was the business agent, nurse, and mentor of the Young People’s Community Choir where four of her children were members. She loved family and family gatherings and was always actively involved in the Tucker Family Reunions. Everyone loved her infamous buttermilk pie and the ‘slammin’ fresh greens that came from her garden. Louella was a very stylish dresser and who loved to wear stunning hats. Blessed with 88 years of life, our beloved Louella Hodnett entered eternal rest on Friday, January 8, 2021.
