Mr. Louis Morgan Guilford, Sr. was born on December 1, 1924, the second son of William S. and Gertrude Donatto Guilford, in Youngstown, Ohio. He attended public schools in Youngstown and graduated from South High School. Louis was drafted into the United States Navy, serving as a medic during World War II. Upon leaving military service, he continued his education at Wilberforce University and Youngstown College. In 1947, Louis married his longtime sweetheart, Pauline Quarles, who passed away in 1989. Their union was blessed with three children. While his employment was diverse, most memorable were Investigator for the Mahoning County Sheriff's Department and Security Officer for General Motors, Lordstown from which he retired in 1990. He was loyal member and Trustee Emeritus of St. Andrewes A.M.E. Church in Youngstown OH., and most recently a member of St. John A.M.E. in Worthington, OH. Affectionately known as Big Lou, PaPa Lou, Grandpa, Louis was a loving mentor, friend, and confidante', who was well-respected by city leaders, businessmen, clergy, and the average fellow citizen. The Guilford household was a second home to many children throughout their formative years. As those who met him can attest - Lou never met a stranger. On October 15, 2014, at the age of 89, Louis departed this life while at his residence. He was predeceased by his wife of 42 years, parents, siblings, William Jr., Gertrude, Jerome, and Ira, and granddaughter Silvia Harris.
