Louise Lane

December 11, 1936 — September 10, 2020

LOUISE LANE was born Friday, December 11, 1936, in Columbus, Ohio. She was a long-time resident of the Columbus community. Louise was a graduate of East High School and Columbus Technical Institute (CTI) where she earned a degree in Social Work. Louise retired from the Department of Human Services after 32 years of dedicated service and also retired from Columbus City Schools with 12 years of service. She was an avid traveler and has gone on countless excursions, both in and out of the United States, for the past 30 years. Her passion for traveling, coupled with her generous spirit, led her to organize numerous vacations for fellow travelers. Since retiring, Louise served her community well in her steadfast involvement with groups such as the Underground, Council of Elders, The Red Hat Society, The Jewish Center, Central Community House, and the Marion Franklin Recreation Center. Louise found immense joy and fulfillment in volunteerism, lending herself to the King Center for the past 10 years, as well as the Bereavement Ministry at her home church, New Birth Christian Ministries, where Bishop Kenneth E. Moore, Sr. was her pastor. On Thursday, September 10, 2020, God said, “WELL DONE my good and faithful servant.” Louise Lane was preceded in death by her parents, Mamie Carey and Henry William Carey; her brother, Johnnie Carey; her sisters, Olivia Wilson and Juanita Jackson. She leaves to treasure her memory her son, Larry Goolsby; daughters, Letta (James) Simpson and Gail Prioleau; brother, Donald Carey; eight grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; nieces, nephews, and a host of friends and loved ones. Louise Lane was a blessing to all who knew her. She leaves a legacy of action. She was a help to those in need and never looked for praise. She challenged us all not to live a stagnant life. She had a favorite saying, “You go tt o enjoy each day, because tomorrow is not promised.”
