Lowell Burks, Jr., 82, Sunrise April 22, 1937 and Sunset June 3, 2019. Born to Lowell and Anna Mae Burks in Louisville, KY. Lowell united with the Church of The Living God, Temple #45 in Louisville, Ky. and was baptized on April 1, 1951 by Bishop I.C. Collins. Lowell attended Central High School in Louisville, KY. Upon graduating from Central High School in 1954, Lowell enlisted into the United States Air Force where he served in an intelligence unit prior to being stationed in Tripoli. He received an Honorable Discharge from the Air Force, then decided to enroll at Central State College, now known as Central State University, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry. Lowell later attended The University of Cincinnati, earning his Master’s Degree in Chemistry. Lowell retired as a Chemist and kept busy teaching, volunteering in his community, and serving as anyone’s “network guy” when needed. One of his most proud and memorable moments include when Lowell and family lived in Chicago, IL. and became the first black family to integrate one of the Northern Suburbs. Lowell made front page news in the Chicago Sun Times. Beloved son, brother, husband, father, and grandad, Lowell was preceded in death by his mother and father, sister, Lorita Payton, and his wife, Sharon Burks. He leaves to cherish his memory, children, Lowell (Angela) Burks III, Arla Burks-Lyles, Terrence (Terri) Burks; grandchildren, Anastasia Owens, Ani Lyles, Amani Lyles, Ashanti Lyles, Madison Burks, Lowell “Charlie” Burks IV, siblings, Sherry (James) Drake, Gwendolyn Brown, and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, special extended family and friends.
