Lucille Jones was born October 14, 1923, to the late John W. and Myrtle Kearns in East Gulf, West Virginia. At the age of 16, she relocated from East Gulf to Brooklyn, New York, to live with her uncle, Jessie Bowles and family. She was employed as a waitress and factory worker.
After Lucille moved to Columbus, Ohio, she joined Tabernacle Baptist Church in July 2000 under the pastorate of the late Rev. Dr. Odell Waller. She was an avid lover of gospel and jazz music.
Lucille passed away October 25, 2022, and is preceded in death by her husband, Colie L. Jones; parents; sisters, Elizabeth F. Marshall, Dorothy J. Davis, Margaret Smith, Geneva Medley, and Bessie C. Kelley; brothers, James E. Kearns, Clarence Kearns Sr., and Nathaniel W. Kearns.
Memories of Lucille will be forever cherished by her brother and sister-in-law, Raymond and Diana Kearns; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends; special relationships, Jessica Mooney, Jonathan Mooney, Caprece Johnson (nurse), Christiana Tawiah (nurse’s aide).
